"Melinda Hammond is an outstanding writer of romantic fiction who touches the heart and recreates history meticulously." (Redrosesforauthors.blogspot)

PAGES AGO - Northwest Libraries are promoting historical fiction and non-fiction this summer! On 18th May I attended the Pages Ago launch at the Bluecoat Arts Centre in Liverpool. Guest speakers taking part in a panel discussion chaired by Dr Jerome de Groot (Lecturer in English and American Studies at Manchester University) were writer Sarah Dunant, Egyptologist Dr Joyce Tyldesley and Juliet Gardiner, former Review Editor of History Today.
It was a lively discussion, with each of the panellists displaying a real passion for the past. Sarah Dunnant's highly acclaimed novels are very well researched and she wants her books to be plausible, understandable to the modern reader yet she tries very hard to get into the heart and mind of her characters and create a whole world.
To tempt readers to try historical fiction or factual books, the libraries are "pairing" novels and factual history books - an "if you like that then you'll like this" approach. Sounds fascinating and can't wait to take part in the readers' day in Manchester later this year.
You can find out more about the promotion at http://www.time-to-read.co.uk/promotions/default.asp?id=6

I have recently completed a trip to Corunna, to honour the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Corunna and the death of Sir John Moore. The tour ended at Corunna where there was a colourful and noisy re-enactment in the town! It was a fascinating journey with lots of useful information for future books! You can read about it on my Sarah Mallory website at www.sarahmallory.com
